The LaRue County Mat Hawks competed Saturday at the Tates Creek Invitational in Lexington, KY. The team placed 4th place out of 18 teams. The Hawks sent 11 wrestlers to compete with 8 Hawks placing in the top 6. Sophomore 220lber Zack Kail went 2-2 on the day finishing 5th place and Junior 160lber Chris Morton also went 2-2 and finishing 5th place. Sophomore Corey Westover 113lbs went 3-2 on the day finishing with a 4th place medal and Senior Cody Burd 152lbs went 2-2 and finished 4th and earned his first medal of his wrestling career. 8th Grader Gabe Fortier 106lbs had another strong finish going 4-1 and achieving a 3rd Place Medal. Junior Jabin Hite 132lbs and Sophomore Thomas Hoppes 126lbs both had excellent days with 4-1 records and runner-up finishes to top-ten opponents. Junior Tucker Shelton HWT finished the day 5-0 and won the tournament defeating his 6th ranked opponent from Ashland 6-2 and was also voted the tournament’s Most Outstanding Wrestler.
