The LaRue County Mat Hawks competed Friday and Saturday at the Woodford County Invitational in Versailles, KY. The team placed a respectable 10th place out of 30 teams. Many top ranked teams were there, with 4 of the top 10 ranked teams in the state represented there. The Hawks sent 18 wrestlers to compete, all seeing quality competition. 4 Hawks walked away with medals. 8th grader Gabe Fortier finished 4th place at 106lbs and Junior Jabin Hite finished 6th place at 132lbs. Sophomore Thomas Hoppes won an exciting finals match at 126lbs, defeating his Christian County opponent 17-14 and winning his 2nd WCI title in as many years. Junior Heavyweight Tucker Shelton dominated his way to the finals, pinning his McCracken County opponent in the finals and winning his first WCI championship.
