The LaRue County Hawks traveled to Danville to wrestle in the Boyle County Big Brother Duals. The Hawks saw success by going 5-0 on the day, winning the High School division and overall program championship alongside the Middle School team. In pools, the Hawks defeated regional competitor Daviess County 66-15, Danville 63-18, and McCreary Central 48-25. In the semi-finals, the Hawks downed Anderson County 53-28, and in the finals, the Hawks defeated hosts Boyle County 48-27. Several wrestlers had standout days, 8th grader Gabe Fortier went undefeated with five wins, and five falls, pinning all his opponents. Juniors Tucker Shelton and Jabin Hite and Sophomores Corey Westover, Thomas Boone, and Thomas Hoppes all went undefeated on the day with 3 falls a piece. Coach Eric Burrell said, “we had a pretty successful day, we have shown a lot of improvement, and we had some guys that saw some successes today. Josh Harper had the most exciting match of the day, winning in overtime. 8th Grader Conner Lambert went 4-1 at 220lbs. He is a beast! Austin Waggoner, Chris Morton, and Austin Shaffer won some matches today which was important. Today was a lot of fun.” The Hawks are in action at home this week when they host Louisville Central and Nelson County at Wednesday at 6:30 PM.
