JACK MITCHELL     LARUE COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL

Jack Mitchell has always been a vital part of the success of the LaRue County cross country and track program.

Jack taught social studies and physical education for 30 years while at LCHS.  He also assisted football for 7 years, and was the head track (28 years) and cross-country coach (25 years) Jack coached eight individual state track champions and several region team championships.

Coach Mitchell is teaching and coaching was never just his “job.”  He was a track coach and a teacher because it was his calling. Teaching and coaching was an integral part of Jack Mitchell’s life–every day, all year.  He loved the profession, the people, the environment, and mostly he loved his track “teams” through the years. To this day, you can find Jack at nearly every LCHS cross-country and track meet in the area.  He just cannot leave the sport behind. Cross Country and Track is part of Jack’s spirit long after retirement.

Coach Mitchell always taught and modeled compassion, devotion, sacrifice, determination, and perseverance. He provided his students and competitors with an opportunity to feel pride in themselves. He loved the kids and he loved being their coach.
